The valley of the temples of Agrigento is one of the main sicilian tourist attractions. If you are doing a Sicily tour, a visit to the valley of the temples should be a "must", despite the great distances and the long journey times to Agrigento departing from other Sicilian towns.

Spring and early autumn are the best seasons for a sightseeing tour in the valley of the temples, thanks to the mild weather. From late January begins the blossoming of almond trees (every year, the first week of February, the famous almond blossom festival takes place in Agrigento). In the following weeks, also the other flowers blossom, creating a fantastic colored carpet in the countryside. If you are visiting Agrigento in summer, think at the high temperatures of the Sicilian summer. In the valley of the temples are only few shadow spots, so avoid the hotest hours for your visit and eventually ask if the archaeological area is opened in the evening too.

Visitors at the Roman villaThe  Roman Villa del Casale of Piazza Armerina, near Enna, is the most impressing building of Roman age in Sicily. It's a sumptuous villa of the late empire period, incredibly well preserved. The villa has more than 40 rooms and is 3500 square meters wide. Inside is an impressive sequence of ancient columns, remains of frescoes, statues and, above all,  mosaics. Thanks to a sofisticated platform system it's possible, for visitors, to see every part of the villa: the termae, the peristyle, the basilica and the private rooms.

The Roman villa del Casale is one of the Sicilian monuments in Unesco's world heritage list. The villa was built during the late Roman empire (4th century A.D.) over an existent building. It belonged to an important member of the aristocracy, maybe a relative of the emperor. In the last years the villa was carefully restored and from the year 2012 it's again completely open to visitors.
